This project involved the refurbishment of a single storey home situated in a conservation area on the banks of the river Tyne in Haddington on a beautiful site overlooking St Mary’s church. The brief was to create an additional bedroom and en-suite within the attic space, to add a conservatory to the garden-facing elevation and to look at ways to improve the living room space. By opening up a section of the ceiling above the living room we created a large, full height light-well. To ensure that the alterations were cost-effective we retained the existing rafters, reducing requirements for additional structure, and over-clad them with finished timber giving the light-well a very distinctive look. We also incorporated a new wood burning stove and bespoke shelving into the room. Our services for this project included preliminary design proposals, Planning Application and Building Warrant drawings. The conservatory was designed and installed by CR Smith.
